We're Calling the Kitty "Joan"

Last night our visiting, pregnant kitty spent the night indoors with us for the first time.  When she first started coming around, she was very shy and would run from us if we talked to her.  Food lured her closer and she was soon letting us pet her.  Now she is very spoiled and wants nearly constant attention, even jumps up on our laps and stays there for a while.

We have no idea when her babies are due, but we have a couple of places set up for her, and I hope she chooses one rather than surprising us by giving birth somewhere else in the apartment (and my past history with cats tells me that's exactly what will happen!).

For the most part she is a very quiet (albeit verbal), attention-seeking cat who is not interested in playing (I've teased her with yarn and the laser pen and she totally ignores them).

That's the good side of the kitty.

Every once in a while, as you reach down to pet her, she hisses, shows her teeth and swats with claws extended from both front paws.  I've had quite a few scratches from her doing this!  Then, seconds later she will be all sweet again.

We have decided to call her "Joan".  Or "Kitty Dearest".  Did you ever see the movie "Mommie Dearest"?

Oh I love Joan for her! She does look like a Joan! She is so lucky to have wandered your way! I can't wait to see pictures of the babies! You are right, whe will find her own crazy undesirable place to give birth! When I was a kid, our cat went under our hot water heater, my mom spent about 2 days trying to get them out of there because of the gas and pilot light! Mom would pull them out and Kitty would take them back! Best of luck!!

UPDATE: Just as I posted this, Joan got up on her hind legs and bit my hand! I had been ignoring her and she didn't like it. She was acting strange all morning and seemed as though she was trying to tell us something and kept going under our bed. That was about 45 minutes ago.

I just peeked and I can see two babies so far! Thankfully, she is in one of the places I prepared for her.

That has been a concern of mine, and since she bit me this morning, I have bigger concerns! We'll have to keep an eye on things.

How exciting ! That's probably why she bit you - labour pains!

OH THIS IS SO EXCITING !!!!!!! I hope shes does well and that agressive behavior was probably because she was close to giving birth...Good Luck with them...Joan Clawford !!!! LOL

I could only see two, and wasn't sure she had given birth to all of them yet. We can't tell how many there are, she has her back to us and facing the wall under the head of the bed.

I just went through this less than two years ago! My other kitties are still at my dad's house and he doesn't want to give them up.

Oh my. Best of luck with Joan and the newest arrivals. Hope that bite doesn't become something more serious.

Maybe now that she has given birth she won't be as catty. ; )
